VERNON, Ind. — Vernon and North Vernon firefighters were called to handle a hazardous material spill from an overturned semi last Friday. It is believed the trailer’s load shifted as the truck rounded a curve on State Road 7 going into the Town of Vernon, causing it to overturn.

According to the North Vernon Fire Department, the hazardous material was antifreeze and oil leaking from the engine of the semi. The trailer was hauling wheat that had gone bad to the dump.

Clean-up took approximately three hours and traffic had to be rerouted. An environmentally friendly absorbent was used to clean up the spill.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
